PET Imaging

The latest diagnostic modality to hit the insurance reimbursement market is PET imaging. This state of the art scanner provides very valuable information and is unique in that it provides details of the chemical functioning of organs and tissues, while other imaging techniques – such as X-ray, CT and MRI show structure. PET is particularly useful for the detection of cancer, coronary artery disease and brain disease. Phil Chambless, our senior physicist, is a leader in the field of PET imaging and serves as Radiation Safety Officer for all mobile PET services and three fixed site PET providers in the State of Georgia. He is proficient in the testing of PET units for ACR Accreditation which is now tied to Blue Cross reimbursement for fixed site PET centers.
