Ultrasound

Ultrasound Quality Assurance: Although ultrasound units do not produce potentially dangerous ionizing radiation, image quality should be routinely tested to provide assurance that the images are properly resolved and provide correct information regarding characteristics such as image size, depth and definition. The quality assurance report is a valuable tool for the physician and sonographer with regard to image resolution for each transducer tested. Ultrasound Accreditation: The American College of Radiology (ACR) has initiated an accreditation program for ultrasound to address general concerns among imaging specialists regarding the quality of ultrasound imaging. The accreditation procedure includes the evaluation of personnel qualifications, equipment and image quality, and quality assurance protocols. A quality assurance program should be developed for each ultrasound unit in the facility. The ACR states that “the quality assurance program must be directed by a medical physicist or by the supervising radiologist or physician who may appoint an appropriate designee to oversee the program”. Phoenix Technology Corporation is available to develop and oversee on-going quality assurance programs and protocols. We will perform the initial QC testing on each ultrasound unit, work with the sonographer(s) to develop and implement a quality control program, and perform semiannual or annual quality control evaluations on each unit.
